Pootsparende operatietechniek bij osteosarcoom van de distale radius

Mits tijdig gediagnostiseerd kunnen we met de pootsparende techniek het aangetaste deel van de radius (al dan niet meet een deel van de ulna) alsmede een deel van het os carpi radiale uitnemen en vervangen door een op maat gemaakt metalen implantaat. Dit gaat gepaard met een panarthrodese van de carpus.

De hond behoudt hiermee dus zijn pootfunctie.

In vergeljiking met amputatie is er geen verhoogd risico op lokaal recidief (!) of metastasering.

Er is intensieve nazorg nodig (o.m. chemotherapeutisch).

De behandeling wordt uitgevoerd in samenwerking met De Ottenhorst, Diergeneeskundig Centrum voor Kankerbehandeling en Kliniek voor Gezelschapsdieren te Terneuzen.

Limb-salvage technique in distal radial osteosarcoma

If diagnosed in time the limb salvage procedure enables us to resect the affected part of the radius (and ulna) as well as part of the radial carpal bone and replace this with a custom metal implant. The carpal joint is arthrodesed with this procedure.

The dog will be able to continue using it's limb.

Compared to amputation there is no higher risc of local recurrence (!) nor a higher chance of metastases.

Patients need elaborate after care (chemotherapy).

The treatment is carried out in close cooperation with De Ottenhorst, Veterinary Oncology Referral Centre and Clinic for Companion Animal Medicine
